Red meat

Ari is experiencing mild, first trimester discomfort. When she was pregnant with Julien, she had quite an ordeal with nausea the first three months. This time, it’s not hitting her quite so hard. Her mornings are a bit uncomfortable–she spends some time trying to “stabilize” her tummy. By afternoon, she’s ready to eat a horse. She has developed an acute craving for red meat. We hardly ever eat it anymore (in fact, I’ve done a pretty good job of staying completely away from it for a month or so now). But since she got knocked up, she’s been eating it like a fiend. Roast beef sandwiches from Texadelphia, New York strip steaks at home, burgers anywhere she can get ‘em … basically, all the endless varieties of anything that used to moo. By evening, her appetite has mellowed quite considerably. Dinners are very light for her–a bowl of rice, maybe some chicken, a clump of pasta. As for me, I’m just biding my time until the second trimester. That’s when her appetite will more than likely do a 180. She’ll be eating faster than I can cook. It might be just what I need to prepare myself for my upcoming Iron Chef championship.
