I’ve already told you that my boss talks to herself. What I haven’t told you is what she typically says to herself. Her conversations often carry an urgent tone, and the words “never,” “unacceptable,” and “impossible” are most likely to be picked out from the mumblings. It appears to me that she is convinced that walking around muttering these mild exasperations under her breath gives her an air of authority. As if the only way she can appear important or powerful is if she is overheard working out some terrible dilemma by herself. Otherwise, why else does she do it? It creeps me out.
