Julien starts a new school tomorrow. I’m both excited and nervous. He’s just plain excited. He loves the idea of going to the new school. In the back of my mind, however, I worry that he might not fully understand that he’s never going back to the old school, that he’s not going to see his cronies on a regular basis anymore, and that he may never see some of those kids again. This is the only school he has attended in his four years of life. I know, I know. From the sounds of it you’d think it was me who was being moved. I guess I’m just projecting. We moved around alot when I was a kid and I often dreaded the instability. Just when I made some good friends, BAM! we were off again. Anyway, regardless of dad’s dysfunction, Julien is ecstatic. He looks at it not in terms of the friends he’s leaving but rather the friends he’ll be making. He’s at that age where everything is great and flowery and new and fun and shiny.

Dumb kids.
