I am watching way too much TV in Michael’s absence, but I may need to veg a little. I am coming off the busiest time of year for me at work (I design print and web stuff for UT’s Office of the Dean of Students), and I’m still bathing in aftershocks–putting out fires with our vendors, poring over proofs–my loupe practically glued to my eye, and other last-minute stuff. As much as I love working on the web, there is nothing like holding a finished printed piece in your hands. There’s just greater closure, I guess.

Next week we begin orientation for over 7000 incoming freshmen. One of my favorite things about this time of year is wandering around campus, seeing students and staff using or wearing something I designed. Last year, as I made my daily hike from bus stop to office, I noticed an orientee squinting at the map in his freshman program. I asked, “can I help you find something?”

“um … nope … I see it, right here” he said, pointing at the map.

“ok, great” I said, thinking to myself, “I guess I already did help you.”
